What are the CDs and DVDs?

CD Stands for Compact  Disc.  and DVD is the aberration of  Digital Versatile Disc / Digital Video Disc.

Both are portable storage devices where you can store and retrieve the data.

What is the CD ROM?

CD ROM there are two terms used here. CD and the ROM CD (Compact Disc) and ROM (Read Only Memory).

So now we can easily understand that CD ROM is a Read-Only Memory device.

In CD ROM you can only read the data, while you can’t store anything in it.


What is the DVD ROM?

As similar to CD ROM, data is stored in DVD ROM once and then only you can retrieve it whenever you want.

DVD ROM is mostly used for storing a large amount of data or multimedia data. We use it to play multimedia files.


How to Record data on CD and DVD?

To record the data on to the CD and the DVD you need to use CD and DVD writer drives.

Use writeable or recordable CD or DVD for recording data.

We used CDs and DVDs to install the software and operating system into the computer.


What are the sizes of the CD and the DVD?

The standard CD or DVD size is 4.7 Inches and 120 in millimetres.

The Mini CD or DVD size is  3.15 Inches and 80 in millimetres.


What are the storage capacities of the CDs and the DVDs?

The standard CD capacity for storing data is 700 ~ 847 MB

The Mini CD capacity for storing data is 120 ~ 847 MB

The standard DVD capacity for storing data is up to 4.7 GB ~ 17 GB

The Mini DVD capacity of storing data is up to 1.46 GB ~ 5.32 GB


What is the difference between CD and DVD?

The only big difference between a CD and a DVD is that a DVD can store more data than a CD.
